Letting Go of Sadness Quickly
Sadness that used to last an hour can shrink to just a few seconds.
That flat feeling after someone says something unkind, the kind that sits in your chest or your head for the rest of the day, is exactly what this session is built to shift. It is aimed at children who feel things deeply and hold themselves to high standards, and the sting of not measuring up can hit hard.
Once relaxed, sadness is traced to where it sits in the body, then imagined moving into a closed fist. As the fist tightens, a happy memory is brought to mind, and opening the hand lets the sadness go. The process is repeated with a second memory, so it becomes a skill rather than a one off trick, practised the way a favourite footballer drills free kicks until it holds under pressure.
Nine minutes long, and something to return to whenever a hard moment needs shaking off quickly.
